Rugs: The New Carpet

Posted in Shopping on January 4th, 2012

A rug is basically used to signify a textile covering which covers a part of the floor. Rugs are natural insulators and help reduce noise levels by absorbing them. They provide warmth and respite for bare feet. Colorful rugs can be used for adding color and life to an otherwise neutral colored area. Rugs are also easier to clean than carpets. In fact, latest interior designs recommend using multihued rugs to make the room livelier. There are various types of densities in which rugs are available, ranging from the coarse variety, 30 knots per inch, to the very fine variety, 290 knots per inch.

There are various other types of rugs too, depending upon their utility. Area rugs are attractive centerpieces, used to enliven the living room. Machine rugs are for short term use, since they are less expensive. Automated weaving looms create woven rugs which is widely multihued and thus, very colorful too. Fourteenth century synagogue prayer mats are the earliest existing example of area rugs. Flokati rugs are a hand-woven wool shag rug. They originated in the Greek mountains. They have a natural softness and cozy appeal mainly because they are manufactured from the finest wool, for comfort and durability.
